This has honestly been the longest wait of my life. I was supposed to leave October 1st but a bunch of my visa paperwork got screwed up and now I'm not due to leave until the 22nd. BUMMER! Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people here with cute faces that I don't want to leave, buuut I just feel like I'm supposed to be teaching the little Asians about our culture by now.
For those of you that don't quite understand what I'm doing:
1) As part of the Au Pair program , I will receive 4-6 hours of Chinese classes per week.
2) The China Au Pair program will place me with a Chinese family interested in giving their children not only a cultural education but direct experience of English.
3) I will be expected to spend less than 30 hours per week as an Au Pair with tasks like taking care of the children, taking them to school, and playing and teaching them, etc. In addition, most families will treat me like a member of the family, so I might be invited on family holidays and gatherings!
Some of you may ask, "Why in the world is Lucy going to China?" Well, we're both wondering the same thing. I'm just ready for the experience of a lifetime. I know this will help me grow rapidly and I'll come back 10x stronger than I ever have been. Everyone needs a little crazy in their lives right? So here's mine. I'll be base jumping out of the beloved nest soon enough!
So there's that! I seriously am too excited for this experience. I'm going to go out there and straight kill it being the "crazy American blonde girl." If you would like to watch me throughout this journey then this blog is your best bet! I'll be keeping it up to date with pictures and stories of my Beijing, China life (:Beijing has no idea what's about to hit them.
xoxo
